# Formative assessment and learning feedback

An approach to adjusting subsequent learning and performance by identifying gaps between current understanding and objectives.

 Method · Education

## Core concepts
Current understanding: the state evidenced by student performance
Next actions: work the learner will actually do to improve
Reception and use: follow-up beyond merely reading feedback

## Application
Identify misconceptions and design revision tasks and opportunities to check again. Workplace application is an editorial extension.

## Limitations and jurisdiction
The EEF guidance primarily concerns learners aged 5–18. Feedback quantity or delivery speed alone does not determine effectiveness.

## Editorial perspectives
Prompt correction: address misconceptions that obstruct the next performance.
Reflection support: allow time to consider evidence and revise independently.
