# Four principles of web accessibility

Examine whether people can perceive information, operate an interface, understand its content and use it with assistive technologies.

 Principle · Technology and product

## Core concepts
Perceivable: provide alternatives to visual and auditory information
Operable: consider keyboard navigation and enough time to act
Understandable and robust: consider consistent behavior, error guidance and interpretation by different tools

## Application
Use the principles as a starting point for checking alternatives, focus order, input errors and document structure. Plan separate checks with assistive technologies and users.

## Limitations and jurisdiction
Reading the principles or passing automated checks does not establish WCAG conformance or access for every disabled user. Check the target criteria and actual task flows.

## Editorial perspectives
Structure first: examine semantic HTML and navigation order.
Experience first: examine barriers found in real tasks.
